Sharpener-Liner

The sharpener-liner is responsible for the maintenance of all saws and knives used to cut the wood.

Training

Three-year on-the-job training. Support available from Emploi-Québec toward the completion of a GED degree in sharpening or a vocational training with follow-up and specialization at the plant.

Log Splitter (Bolter)

The splitter, also known as a log bucker or bolter, takes 2.5 meters (8 feet) logs and carries them inside using a chain conveyor. He is responsible for cutting 40 centimeter (16 inches) bolt wood into logs. He then feeds the logs to various cedar equipment based on a specific order.

Training

Three-month on-the-job training.

Required skills

  • Good physical condition
  • Use of various tools, including chain and wood saws
  • Autonomous, good concentration even when performing repetitive tasks

Saw Miller

The cedar saw miller saws and classifies shingles based on specific quality criteria.

Training

One year and a half on-the-job training

Required skills

  • Familiarity with using saws
  • Autonomous and good judgement
  • Good concentration even when performing repetitive tasks

Bundler

The task of the bundler is to verify the classification of shingles and to pack them ready for shipment.

One-month on-the-job training

Rotary Loader Driver (Loader)

Driving heavy equipment and operating the necessary controls to perform loading work and snow removal operations.

Training

GED – Heavy Machinery Operator

Required skills

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence

  • Dexterity and coordination
  • Demonstrate autonomy

Production Line Day Worker

Works on the automated production line while ensuring its proper operation. Tasks are varied as the day worker frequently changes station.

Training

One-month on-the-job training

Yard Worker (Peeler)

Remove bark from cedar logs to feed the plant, operate equipment controls.

Quality Controller

Verification of finished product before shipping to clients.

Training

Experience acquired over time while working at the plant. The quality controller has worked as a saw miller before accessing to this particular job.
